Welcome to the International Budo Federation Jiu-Jitsu Kobudo England & Wales

We are open to all martial artists regardless of what association they belong to and provide a safe and friendly environment to train.

We are always looking for new members to join Jiu-Jitsu IBF this includes everyone from the individual to existing clubs and organisations who simply want to belong to a governing body or larger blanket organisation without compromising their individuality or have to change their training system, if you wish to become part of Jiu-Jitsu IBF you can contact us on the link at the top of the page.

We have our own grading scheme and this syllabus is challenging and well structured. However we allow member clubs within our own organisation to follow their own syllabus if they wish to do so.

Jiu-Jitsu IBF is all about the martial art as is the ethos of the International Budo Federation.

The Kano System

Many Martial Arts were practiced in Japan in the Feudual age.

These were the use of the lance, archery, swordsmanship and many more.

Jiu-Jitsu also called Tai-Jutsu & Yawara was a Martial Arts system of attack and defence that involved throwing, punching, kicking, stabbing, slashing, choking, bending and twisting limbs and the pinning of an opponent.

Although Jiu-Jitsu techniques were known from the earliest of times, it was not until the latter half of the 16th Century that Jiu-Jitsu was taught systematically.

My mentor, teacher and father Professor TW Starling 8th Dan encouraged me to train with him and many eminent masters of their craft from a very early age.

I was always told to understand the new I was to always return to the old Katas and traditional methods.

My fathers most favourite saying is that the human body has spent thousands of years in development and will only bend and move in certain directions, so there are no new techniques or methods only the revisiting of old ones!

The Kobudo System

The Kobudo System we use in Jiu-Jitsu IBF is based upon the Weapon system training developed and promoted by the great Karate and Kobudo expert Sensie Fumio Demura.

The sword work is much inspired by Sensie Toshishiro Obata of the Toyama Ryu methods and his style of Samurai Aiki-Jujutsu.

This has now been combined and is the Jiu-Jitsu IBF style I refer to as the complete 'Kano Jiu-Jitsu'

Dr. Jigaro Kano was first and foremost a master of Jiu-Jitsu and if you by chance read the The Complete Kano Jiu-Jitsu by H Irving Hancock & Katsukuma Higashi first published in 1905, I believe in my own personal opinion you will grasp the concept of pure Jiu-Jitsu.

Junior Jiu-Jitsu IBF

Jiu-Jitsu is suitable for children; the methods taught are quickly learnt and give confidence, making the child less of a target for bullying and aggressive behaviour towards them.

We have a grading syllabus for juniors from White Belt to Black and White belt.

There are also Junior Leader Coaching Awards for the older children to attain.

Senior Jiu-Jitsu IBF

The Adult syllabus is from White Belt to Black Belt 5th Dan.

With three Coaching Levels in Jiu-Jitsu. There are no requirements for great strength or physically opposing someone, Jiu-Jitsu is suitable for all ages, shapes and sizes.

Jiu-Jitsu is good for self development, self respect, discipline and Self Defence.

There are normally as many female adults as males as women find they can easily adapt Jiu-Jitsu as a great method of Self Defence.
